Delays

It seems Passion for Horses has faced nothing but delays. And unfortunately some personal issues and a computer crash have prevented me from working on thing this week. However, here's a preview of the cover. Enjoy =)

What comes next

Passion for horses is finished and should be available for purchase some time next week. Since I have to go back to America for personal reasons, we're closed to submissions for the month of April and May.

On June second, we'll start accepting submissions to Passion for Weird Tales. The call for submissions will remain open until July 15th.

There will be several changes to our submission process as well. Please check back.

I'd also like to welcome Ambrose Orange to the Green Gecko team. He is our copy editor.

Welcome Gail, Debbie and Becky and some news

I want to take a moment to welcome three new writers to the Green Gecko family.

Gail Kavanagh is a former journalist from The Outback, not the restaurant, the country. She sent us a delightful, passion filled story.

Debbie Dean is a real character herself. She's a long time horse professional who has done a little of everything including working in the steel mills as a pipe inspector and driving semi trucks. We're so glad that she shared her story with us and we can share it with you.

Becky Bean is mother of two unruly, but lovely boys. She's also a freelance writer. We're exited she found the time in her busy scheduled to share her passion for horses with us.

A few other bits of news. We're working on something top secrete here at Green Gecko. This project has meant that we might have to re-evaluate our policy towards paper books. We still see ourselves as an E-publisher but we're also a business. That means not closing the door on opportunities. Our next project will be Passion for Weird Tales. It's time we got some fiction in the house. We'll announce the official submission dates soon but you can send us your submissions early if you like.

I wanted to take a moment and welcome Katie Gooch into the Green Gecko writer's family. Katie is an up an coming author. She sent us a wonderful story about her passion for horses. Please take time to read her stories Made and Imperfections.
And don't forget, we'll be accept submissions to Passion for Horses until March 1st.

Submissions for Passion for Horses still open.

I'm happy to say we have an awesome collection of stories in Passion for Horses. We've got enough to go ahead with publication but I'd really like to have that even number of ten. Submissions will remain open until the first week of March.

Our expected release date is about the end of March or beginning of April.

We've had a lot of fine submissions and have accepted those that have given us emotional resonance. Stories of passion. If you have such a story about horses or horse people, please send it to us!

Authors Anounced

Today we're happy to announce two writers whose work will appear in Passion for Horses.

Janet L. Huntington is both a writer of note and a well respected equestrian. She has agreed to write the forward for us. We're ecstatic to have her on board.

Meg Eden is an accomplished writer who sent us a very short and lovely story about her friend. We're excited to include her work in Passion for Horses.

You can learn more about these authors on our writers page. Be sure to visit their websites and say hello.

As contracts come in, we should be making more announcements along these lines. We need just four stories to complete Passion for Horses but since one of the stories is very short, we'd be open to including an eleventh tale. So send us your stories!

Things that come up

Things come up from time to time that we had not considered.

First, if you send photos please be sure they are your photos. The story must be yours too.

Second, we are starting to get a bunch of lovely stories together. Several authors have expressed that they also have fictionalized horse stories. I've talked it over with my partner and we're not sure that there is a market for this, but are open to the idea of doing a collection of horse fiction anyway. We'll post a call when the time comes.

Third, this has made us think hard about the kind of publishing company we want to be and where we want to fit in this industry. We don't really know the answer to that yet. Maybe this is too honest, but it's the truth. We have business plan but we want to remain flexible, to let the company evolve. Having said that, we appreciate the authors taking a chance on us. We apologize for the low pay and are working diligently to rectify that.
